I have recently heard from a couple of concerned friends that I have not scrapbooked for a long time. So what HAVE I been doing? Ummmm.....EVERYTHING ELSE!
Like:
Traveling, hiking, gardening, going to awesome food and wine events with friends, white-water rafting, painting (see below), traveling, swimming, decorating (see below), sewing (see below), exploring, starting a new company, landscaping, running a couple of 5Ks, traveling, working out at the gym, building stuff (see below), filming a video for Annie's, writing for the magazine, designing new lettering...did I mention traveling?
(to places like, Oregon, Washington, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Indiana, Minnesota)
So yeah.....doing everything else besides scrapbooking, and loving every minute of it!
One of the things that took up quite a bit of time was the re-do of my living room AND bedroom. :)
After a few (okay, a crap load) of cans of spray paint, scrap lumber, and yards of fabric to sew a bunch of pillows, I came up with some pretty cool finished results. :)
Lets start with the bedroom:
BEDROOM BEFORE (sad, sad, sad.)
Cozy, old-fashioned= outdated and REALLY needing a makeover!
*******************
BEDROOM AFTER (soooo much better!)
So the new blue damask bedding (Matelasse coverlet and pillow shams at the back of the pile) is from The Home Decorating Company.
The rest of the pillows were sewn from several different fabrics from JoAnn's by yours truly. :)

On to the dresser:
I almost went out and bought new hardware for this dresser, but why do that when I could just hit the old brass with a few coats of Chrome spray paint?!!!
I am soooooo in love with this color of blue!!! it is called Jellyfish by Valspar. Available at Lowe's.
LOVE how the entire thing turned out!

In fact, I painted a whole bunch of stuff that color of blue:
I made this wall hook from a piece of scrap trim moulding. I added this cool antique-looking hook (painted black to change it from the rusty brown, copper-ish finish it used to be), and added hanging hardware to the back.
*******************
Now it holds this:
Wanna know a secret? I got this hanging candle thingy on clearance for $2 at Michael's because there is a crack in the glass on the back. :) Like anyone will notice!

Did I mention that I really like that blue?
This lovely sign hangs above the bed and was once a distressed red. It was just BEGGING to be re-painted. :) The sentiment is the same as before, but I re-stenciled it in a new font with dark grey paint.

Did I mention that I really like that blue? :)
I made this pegged shelf thing awhile back, but it used to be red and black.
Sooooo, since I do what I do, I just HAD to re-paint it!
I also added pretty scrolly brackets and a wooden trim medallion in the middle.
Not stopping there (and because I still had jewelry that needed a place to hang), I found an old cork board, painted the frame black, and then recovered the inside with left-over fabric from the pillows I had sewn. I finished it off with a criss-cross of silvery satin ribbon. The jewelry is simply hanging from clear push-pins borrowed from my office. Easy peasy!

More blue? Okay!
Okay, so these two prints were the easiest projects ever, and they look so pretty hanging on the wall!
I found these cool silhouette images of a chair and chandelier online. After downloading and re-sizing, I printed them out onto scrapbook paper with a French script print background.
Of course, since I could not find mattes in the right color (jellyfish blue is NOT a common color), I painted them to match!
I stuck the finished prints into old oak frames that I painted with black spray paint.

Want another easy project?
Okay, so scroll waaaaay back up to the top of this post to the BEFORE photo.
See that green lamp on my nightstand?
Two words: Spray paint.
Two more words: Easy peasy!!!
On that nightstand is an old oval hat box, spray painted jellyfish blue. Glued to the front is a piece of scrapbooking paper that I printed "No. 7" on. Easy peasy.
That lamp shade with the script print was originally a darker burlap-ish color. So I whitewashed it to make it lighter.

Have a mentioned that I build stuff?
This is the TV stand out in my garage/shop during the building process. :)
And THIS is the same TV stand after it is all trimmed out and painted a pretty satin black. Almost "Pottery Barn-ish" if I do say so myself!
The TV is sitting on an old wooden ammunitions box, and yes, I painted the frame on that mirror. :) Easy peasy! The mirror, NOT the TV stand.
*******************
One last project? Okay!
When we built the new house, I designed my office to have all built in file cabinets.
So this guy, originally a white oak, and part of my old office furniture, was headed for the dump.
BUT, since I like to keep things around that have decent bones, I knew it would fit perfectly in this odd corner of the bedroom to hold random paperwork.
So, It got a new trimmed out top, a coat of satin black paint, and new hardware. :)
Say it with me: "Easy peasy!!!!"
*******************
See that little blue box with doors on top of the file cabinet?
That was originally red and black, and the doors had insets covered in chicken wire.
I used pliers to yank out the chicken wire, painted it blue, and added fabric-covered bookboard for the door inserts (same fabric as the pillows and jewelry cork board).
Now go paint something old and make it new again. :)
Thanks for stopping by!
Later,
