So who's ready for the next one?
I LOVE the whole bird and birdcage trend that is popular right now, but this little friend of mine is all dressed up and heading off on an adventure- no more cage for her!!!
Tag #3
Step 1:
You can use any tapestry background stamp for this step. Ink the entire stamp surface with a golden yellow ink and while ink is still wet, spray a couple spots with a dark orange and a brown spray mist.
Step 2:
Stamp your tag. Below is the effect that you'll get. A slightly mottled, watery look with softened edges. Pretty, huh? Don't worry about the top part of the tag that didn't get stamped. We will cover this up later with strips of paper.
Step 3:
Using black ink, stamp text or sentiment along left side of tag.
Cut strips of paper to cover the top part of the tag. I just used some random vintage pieces from my stash. Try to USE WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE. :)
Adhere strips of paper to tag and cut off any extra. Re-punch your hole at the top of the tag.
Using an edge distresser, scrape the edges of your tag. Then using your ink blending tool, add dark brown ink to all the edges.
Paint entire surface of birdcage with white craft paint and allow to dry. This particular cage is made from thin wood and is made by KaiserCraft. I believe they carry them at Michael's now, but you could also use a chipboard version.
Step 8:
Stamp entire surface of cage with a crackle pattern stamp and black ink. This stamp is an ancient one from Rubber Stamede, but several manufacturers out there have similar versions.
The cage looks good "as-is", but I decided to "grunge" it up a bit more in the next two steps.
Spray the surface of cage with brown spray mist. This will mottle the crackle image that was stamped onto the cage in the previous step. Dry with a heat tool.
Step 10:
Shade cage with brown ink and ink blending tool and set aside.
Step 11:
Color small white crocheted doily with spray mists. The photo below shows both before and after coloring. I dried my doily by placing it between paper towels and then ironing on a low setting. These doilies are cotton, so they took color well and were not damaged from the iron. Rather than buying pre-colored doilies, I prefer these white ones and I just color them myself to match my projects. Lots more options that way!
Step 12:
Glue everything on and add some bling!!! I used hot glue to add my cage, crocheted flower, buttons, and my sweet little chipboard bird that has a coating of gold UTEE. Her bling necklace is tiny KaiserCraft gems, but she says she also looks good in pearls. ;) Loop and tie some twill thru the top and you're done!
I think that we need some sneaks of the next few tags, don't you?
